The Ford EFI injector system decoded: factory color codes from 14 lb to 42 lb, EV1 versus EV6 bodies, Jetronic versus USCAR connectors, and the Ford Racing catalog part numbers, covering Fox body and SN95 Mustangs, modular 4.6 engines, Lightning, and Cobra. Compiled by the injector cleaning department at Boost Lab, Inc.
Ford is the one manufacturer where the injector tells you its size at a glance. Factory and Ford Racing port injectors follow a color convention: gray is 14 lb/hr, yellow or orange is 19 lb, light blue is 24 lb, red is 30 lb, dark blue is 36 lb, and lime green is 42 lb. The 2003 to 2004 Cobra runs a 39 lb injector that Ford confusingly also colored blue, which is why the chart below matters more than the paint.
The second identification layer is body and connector. EV1, EV6, and EV14 describe the injector body generation, while the electrical connector is either the older Jetronic (also called Minitimer) or the newer USCAR style, and Ford mixed them freely. Every 5.0 and 4.6 2V Mustang from 1986 to 2004 uses the Jetronic connector, all Lightnings use Jetronic, and the 03-04 Cobra, Mach 1, and 2005 and later Mustangs use USCAR. An EV6 body with a Jetronic connector is common, so identify both before ordering pigtails.
Almost all of these are high impedance saturated injectors around 11 to 18 ohms, which is why Ford sets swap so easily across the lineup once flow, length, and connector are matched.

Fox body and SN95 19 lb injectors are the most common Ford set on our bench. Varnish drops flow and skews the spray cone; cleaning typically restores the full rating across the set.
Color tells size but not health. We flow test mixed sets, identify the true rating, and match a consistent set of eight with documentation for your tuner.
42 lb greens on supercharged trucks that lean out one hole under boost. A before and after flow report finds the weak injector without swapping parts blind.
The color indicates flow rate on factory and Ford Racing port injectors: gray 14 lb, yellow or orange 19 lb, light blue 24 lb, red 30 lb, dark blue 36 lb, and lime green 42 lb per hour. The 03-04 Cobra 39 lb injector is also blue, so confirm by application or part number rather than paint alone.
EV1, EV6, and EV14 describe the injector body generation and physical size. Jetronic (Minitimer) and USCAR describe the electrical connector. Ford mixed them, so an EV6 body can carry an old style Jetronic connector. Match body length, o-rings, and connector, or use adapters.
Broadly yes within the same body and connector style, since both platforms use high impedance injectors. The stock 19 lb units in a 5.0 and a 4.6 SOHC are functionally the same injector, which is why Ford sets move so freely between these engines.
When the current set approaches its duty cycle limit for your power level, roughly 80 percent duty as a planning number. A healthy set of 19s supports around 300 hp on a naturally aspirated combination. Before sizing up, flow test what you have; a tired set reads like an undersized set.
Yes. EcoBoost GDI injectors are tested and cleaned on our Carbon Zapp GDI bench at true direct injection pressures up to 300 bar, with flow and leak data documented before and after service and delivered through your customer portal.
